Meeting the 3rd Dodrupchen
Once, while he was circumambulating stupas, Patrul was handed a letter from Do Khyentse Yeshe Dorje, asking him to oversee the education of the young Dodrupchen tulku.187 Soon after that, when Patrul reached the east side of the circumambulation path, he encountered the newly recognized tulku in person.
Patrul had been reciting Chanting the Names of Manjushri as he made the circumambulation. At the moment the two came face to face, Patrul had just come to this verse:
Through great wisdom, in a single instant,
He realized and beheld all things.

“If this happened to anyone but me,” Patrul later said, “it would be seen as an auspicious coincidence, a sign that this tulku will be a great scholar.”
